Newsletter – Spring 2012

Hi there! February was a busy month for me as my new novel for adults, The Shoestring Club was published in Ireland. It will be available in the UK in September.

The feedback from readers (the most important critics of all) has been very positive so far. Writers are always nervous wrecks before a book comes out – worrying will their readers like it. But I’m delighted to say so far everyone seems to love it.

The book was launched by the lovely Ms Pauline McLynn on Wednesday 15th February in Dubray Books, Dubray, Grafton Street.

 

The Shoestring Club is about two sisters, Julia and Pandora Schuster. Julia’s ex-boyfriend, Ed has been seeing her best friend, Lainey behind her back, and they’ve just announced their engagement. Julia loses her job and, after a lot of family pressure, the rather spiky Pandora is forced to give Julia a job in Shoestring, the family’s designer swap shop where she doesn’t exactly make Julia feel welcome. Is it any wonder Julia starts drinking to blot everything out?

At the heart of the novel is the relationship between Julia and Pandora. Their mum died of breast cancer when Julia was only nine, and ever since Pandora has been trying to mother her younger sister, with mixed results. But Julia has been hiding something from Pandora all her life, a secret that she fears will blow the close knit family apart. But if she can’t face up to her past, how can she face into her future?

On the 10th March I’ll be taking part in the Monster March Book Bash for young readers of age 9+ in the County Hall, Dun Laoghaire.

I’m now working on another novel for adults, The Memory Box, which will be published in 2013, and my new book for young teens, Ask Amy Green: Dancing Daze, which will be published in September.

Breaking News

I’ll be involved in a most interesting television project in March and April – more details soon! It’s a very worthwhile project and I can’t wait to start filming.
