Amy-Roses Reading Diary
0 to 10 Months Amy-Rose is now ten months old and a real little charmer. She has a very strong personality for a baby and shows strong preferences for certain types of books. From an early stage Ive been reading to her - starting off with nursery rhymes and touchy-feely board books - anything tactile and interesting. Shes now progressed onto real books and can turn pages and point (well, stab her hand at) images shes interested in, like pictures of cats or dogs. She loves interactive books like The Very Hungry Caterpillar and seems to recognise favourite books at this stage. She has a small book box filled with board books in her bedroom, a make-shift bookshelf beside her bed for bedtime books, and a basket of play books in the kitchen. She will now take books out herself and look at them. I want her to associate books with play and fun and I feel its important not to hide books away on the top shelves but to make them easily accessible to her. I want them to be part of her everyday life, not just for special occasions.
